When your workplace is the entire city of Lucerne – working alone, safely

When your workplace is the entire city of Lucerne
From fiber optic networks to heat supply, from workshop orders to on-call duty: at ewl energie wasser luzern, jobs are as diverse as the infrastructure that keeps the company running every day. 140 of these employees will now be protected by the Uepaa Safety App.
ewl energie wasser luzern is one of the region's major infrastructure service providers. Over 450 employees across more than 70 professions ensure that electricity flows, water is available, buildings are heated, and data travels through fiber optic networks.
What works seamlessly for the public requires a great deal of work behind the scenes—and, above all, a great deal of movement.
140 employees also working alone in the service area
Because a significant portion of this work does not take place at a desk, nor always within a team.
Work involves building and maintaining power and fiber optic networks, inspecting pipe or distribution networks, servicing facilities, or checking installations. Employees are out on call, handling building services, heat supply, and small power plants, or conducting inspections for reporting purposes.
Other assignments take them to workshops, technical facilities, construction sites, or directly to customers.
The tasks vary. The environments vary. And the risks are not the same everywhere.
What these activities have in common: Visibility and voice contact with others can quickly become limited.
Especially during mobile assignments, a basement, a technical room, a remote facility, or work outside regular hours is all it takes. A standard work situation can quickly turn into lone working.
A smartphone that does more when it matters most
With 140 employees across such diverse areas, a safety solution is needed that isn't tied to a single workstation or a specific job profile.
The smartphone is already with them. With the Uepaa Safety App, it becomes a personal safety companion.
Depending on the task and situation, employees can use various protection functions:
✅ Dead man's switch in case of immobility
✅ Manual alarm for acute emergencies
✅ One-off safety checks for temporary work in shafts without reception
✅ Direct peer-to-peer assistance in the immediate vicinity
✅ Location transmission in the event of an alarm
✅ Professional 24/7 alarm monitoring center for alarm processing
This allows safety measures to be adapted to the actual work being performed – without the need to carry an additional, separate alarm device.
Infrastructure is everywhere. Safety is too.
More than 4,100 kilometers of electricity, gas, heating, water, and telecommunications networks impressively demonstrate the infrastructure that ewl operates in the region. Behind these figures are the people who build, operate, and monitor this infrastructure, and who ensure that it is back up and running as quickly as possible in the event of a fault.
Whether it's fiber optics, network operations, heating, electrical work, on-call duty, or the workshop: the workplace can be anywhere. Your personal safety comes with you.
We appreciate the trust placed in us by ewl energie wasser luzern and wish all employees continued safe and accident-free work.
