Start and stop the app:
The app can be started via the app icon. Depending on the smartphone, also via special keys or SOS buttons. It is also possible to access the Uepaa app directly via lockscreen widgets.
Operating status check:
We recommend that you carry out a brief operating status check before each working day. At the push of a button, you can confirm that all relevant monitoring and alerting functions are working properly.
Switch the dead man function on and off:
After that, all you have to do is activate the appropriate dead man function for static or dynamic work. When working alone is finished, it is of course necessary to deactivate the dead man function again in the same way.
Background usage:
After the dead man function has been activated, the app can be moved into the background. All processes that use the battery more intensively, such as GPS positioning, immediately go into standby mode. The battery of your employees is relieved to the maximum — but the app remains available at all times.
Manual alerting
Our multilingual, IQNet and SQS certified 24/7 emergency call center is ready for your employees around the clock. Qualifying the recall, escalating the company and calling for the nearest rescue partners is our daily business. If the employee is still able to trigger an alarm themselves, they can do so via the emergency call button in the app. Depending on the type of smartphone, SOS hardware buttons or lockscreen widgets also make it easier to trigger an alarm quickly.
Automatic alerting
The app then alerts when the employee is no longer able to. To do this, Uepaa uses smartphone sensors, timer functions and the clever integration of the 24/7 emergency call center. Regardless of whether it is static work at a desk or active work in motion — an accident is quickly detected and the alarm is triggered automatically.
First aider alert
Users close to an alarm are identified and called upon as first responders within seconds. Because sometimes every minute counts. This is an automatic alarm function that is only available with Uepaa. Users of the Uepaa app can therefore not only trigger a camera alarm, but are also always potential first aiders.
Standstill detection:
Uepaa uses smartphone sensors to analyze the employee's movements. If Uepaa detects the lack of movement, the “pre-alarm” is activated. If there is no response from the employee, the alarm is triggered.
Regular check:
If the regular check is activated, the app logs in at a specified interval and requests a confirmation via the “pre-alarm”. If there is no response from the employee, the alarm is triggered.
One-time alarm:
If the time alarm is activated, a fixed time can be selected in advance, after which an alarm is automatically triggered. When set, this alarm is transmitted directly to the Uepaa emergency call center. If there is no deactivation by the employee, the alarm is triggered by the emergency call center.
Yes — with the one-time check:
In general, the Uepaa app requires an active Internet connection. The operating status constantly monitors coverage and informs the user as soon as there is no longer network coverage. In order to be protected even outside the network, the “one-time check” can be activated as an alternative in such cases. Of course, this requires going back to a location with an Internet connection to activate this type of alarm.
The one-time check is transferred directly to our emergency call center. If the set time is exceeded and the set alarm is not deactivated again, the 24/7 emergency call center triggers the alarm chain.
If it is not just temporary work, but work is being carried out in these zones for a long period of time without reception, then retrofitting with GSM or WiFi is recommended. This is described in the following section.
Securely connected to WiFi:
Everything that connects the smartphone to the Internet also connects the Uepaa app to the Uepaa emergency call center. Whether you work with GSM repeaters or with WiFi is irrelevant when using the app. Thanks to WiFi calling, qualification callbacks from our emergency call center also reach your employees
Securely located with indoor positioning (BLE beacons):
First aiders as well as rescue workers need more detailed information on the position of the victim. In buildings, GPS positioning is often too imprecise and valuable time is lost, especially in multi-storey buildings or underground facilities. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons provide the lack of accuracy and pinpoint help. Reach out to us and we'll be happy to help.
Found quickly and safely via the alarm process:
Valuable information is stored in the employee's respective alarm process, which makes it possible to find it quickly and securely. Typical work locations, floors or room numbers can be stored as well as special workplace hazards.
Quickly found with manual location (current location):
When working on customer premises, as is often the case with field service technicians, the so-called daily emergency contact helps. In addition to the contact, the employee can also provide more detailed information about the location of assignment. Such as “Liftschacht” or “Kontrollkasten 2. basement”. Thanks to daily emergency contact and this additional information, the search is quick and efficient, even at customer sites.
Effective near field search using the alarm sound:
All participants can access geolocation, indoor positioning and the current location via the central situation picture (via online web console). In addition, the Uepaa app provides near-field acoustic location via a beep, which enables rescue workers to quickly locate devices as soon as they arrive on site.
Yes, absolutely. This is because around 64,000 people in Switzerland have tripping or falling accidents every year while working. That is a quarter of all occupational accidents. If you add accidents in everyday life (leisure time excluding sports accidents), the number even rises to around 135,000 people.
That is why the Uepaa app is not only designed for business use but also for private use. We even explicitly recommend that it be used in leisure time as well. Trust in the app is increasing, which also helps operational use.
As a company, you benefit from lower non-operational accident costs — and can first offer your employees an additional benefit, at no additional cost.
The operating status warns when the environment changes:
The app alerts the user about the operating status if, for example, the Internet connection to the 24/7 emergency call center is interrupted, the GPS location is insufficient or the battery charge falls below 20%.
The operating status warns if the smartphone settings are missing:
The app also warns the user about the operating status if device settings restrict the functions of the Uepaa app.
Ongoing and manual review:
Of course, this system monitoring always runs in the background. At the push of a button, you can also manually confirm that all relevant monitoring and alerting functions are working properly.
The first-responder alert has a range of two kilometers and is deliberately chosen to activate and involve only first aiders who can quickly reach the person in the accident.
Alone is rarely really alone:
Alone in the workshop doesn't necessarily mean alone in the company. The Uepaa app's camera aid penetrates soundproof walls and also reaches the person in the other building. Or bridge distances when working as a team on extensive terrain. In this way, the time until professional help arrives can be used for the benefit of the person in the accident.
Collective protection from the Uepaa cloud:
Well over 120,000 Uepaa app users are contributing to the fact that first-aider coverage is becoming ever tighter. When you use the Uepaa app, you automatically become part of a comprehensive first responder network instead of an isolated solution.
No In an emergency, there must be no company borders. The first aider function of the Uepaa app identifies all users in the area who can help — regardless of company affiliation.
1 — Pre-alarm on smartphone:
When using the Uepaa app, the pre-alarm is a central step. For example, when the user has to confirm a regular check. Employees always have 5 minutes to acknowledge these pre-alarms.
2 — Recall qualification:
If the pre-alarm remains unconfirmed, the app forwards the alarm to the 24/7 Uepaa emergency call center. The recall qualification gives us the certainty that it is not a false alarm after all. 85% of false alarms can be resolved and closed via recall qualification.
3 — Intra-company escalation:
For the remaining 15% of alarms, we switch to internal escalation. Our experts from the emergency call center will assist you with alarm assessment and intervention. This is supported by an alarm dashboard, to which we grant you temporary access. Nothing is left to chance — there are no login problems.
4 — Intervention:
If we come to the conclusion together that there is a possible personal emergency, then things will be quick. It is our daily business to provide the nearest rescue partners. The nearest rescue partner is automatically called up even if the company-internal escalation cannot take place (contractual authorization required).
When employees are notified manually:
In the case of volitional alarm and existing telephone contact, the employee always has the option of giving direct instructions for the rescue.
In the event of an automatic alert, the company:
In the case of an independent alarm, it is the escalation levels that authorize the rescue operation. The nearest rescue partner is only automatically deployed if the internal escalation fails and if there is a contractual authorization.
Access codes/key boxes:
With the Uepaa app, you can integrate your existing access concept. It doesn't matter whether locking systems with codes or emergency key boxes are involved. In the event of an alarm, we will instruct emergency services how access is possible.
Local fire brigades or your own briefing:
Many of our customers already have rescue concepts with local fire service organizations or their own control centers, which simultaneously train rescue workers. Such processes can also be stored in the alarm chain.
If there is an intervention, we give the rescue parties involved access to a Rescue web dashboard. This temporary access is only active as long as the intervention is ongoing. This includes all rescue-relevant information, including the ambulance and the emergency team. The following are central to positioning on company premises:
— GPS location: Current location, which building, etc.
— Stored alarm chain: Additional information such as departments, floors, etc.
— Indoor BLE location information: The last BLE beacon that happened or is currently visible.
— Current location: The app allows you to store a temporary location.
Last but not least, an extremely robust and simple search method applies:
— Near field acoustic positioning: The victim is located within seconds via the shrill beep of the Uepaa app.
The emergency response and rescue costs are always borne by the company. Authorization is always obtained in consultation with the company representatives involved during the company escalation. The nearest rescue service is only automatically deployed if the internal escalation fails and if there is a contractual authorization.
English, German, French and Italian:
The Uepaa app is available in English, German, French and Italian and therefore provides optimal support for your employees. Of course, this applies to the entire rescue chain.
The language in the alarm chain depends on the app language:
Multilingualism is guaranteed throughout the alarm functions and rescue chain. According to the language dialing in the app, the alert is redirected and received and processed by the corresponding employee in our emergency call center.
1 — Your data collection > our quality assurance:
When recording the various internal alarm chains, we provide you with proven templates. In it, you enter all necessary internal escalation levels and all mobile numbers of employees who should receive the Uepaa app. With our many years of experience, we review and supplement data collection. After final approval, these are transferred to the production system, tested and approved for intensive use.
2 — SMS sending with download link to the Uepaa app:
Following the start of production, all new users receive an invitation via SMS to join Uepaa AG's insurance. The SMS contains the link to the respective App Store or Google Play Store — depending on whether Apple or Android smartphones.
3 - Online training materials, always up to date:
Each new user also has access to tried and tested online training material. The instructions for installing and configuring the app, the main functions and the alarm chain, as well as valuable tips for daily use make getting started very easy.
The app is used by over 120,000 users. In this respect, using the app is self-explanatory. Of course, Uepaa AG is also happy to provide training courses for you — this is not absolutely necessary in most cases. It is important to anchor the use of the app in internal processes and work instructions on the subject of working alone.
Remote training:
The product launch is rounded off with remote training. Especially with larger equipment, this digital and location-independent training has both financial and practical benefits for you. The search for appointments is simplified, and training courses can be held simultaneously and across locations. Your day-to-day operations will only be minimally burdened, even with larger rollouts.
On-site training:
Of course, we also offer on-site training. Please contact us early enough, as they usually require a bit of advance and planning for implementation. On-site training is chargeable and is not part of the respective product groups.
Train-the-trainer training courses:
We offer train-the-trainer training both remotely and on site. These go into even more detail and support both the product launch and follow-up or refresher training (e.g. when changing personnel) by your own employees.
Transferable subscriptions:
Depending on the product subscription, the licenses are freely transferable. Withdrawals, admissions or changes of department can be made at any time. This gives you the flexibility to optimally distribute or even transfer the available licenses among the workforce.
Changes via master data sheet:
Uepaa AG's support is also available here. Amendments are typically processed within one business day. As a rescue service provider, we guarantee the protection of your employees, all changes go through our quality assurance. You will always receive a counterproof of the change made and the new data master file.
There are many ways to get in touch with our support team. Directly via the feedback form from the app is certainly the fastest and easiest way. Of course, we can be reached in the classic way:
No, there is no need to conclude additional data protection agreements with employees. With the Uepaa app, you use a SaaS service and do not operate the system yourself. Location data cannot be viewed by the employer. You therefore do not manage any sensitive data and there is no need for an additional contractual data protection and usage agreement with your employees.
Free choice of smartphones:
Uepaa does not restrict you in the choice of mobile phones you use. Not least thanks to our cooperation with Swisscom, we are able to test very intensively and guarantee the functions to the maximum.
Explosion-proof Android smartphones:
Explosion-proof devices are particularly robust and meet increased safety requirements. Various manufacturers offer ATEX and IECEX certified devices, such as iSafe Mobile, Bartec or Astron. As a rule, these devices are based on the Android operating system. Please contact us if you have any questions about using such devices.
Restraint among entry-level smartphones:
It should be noted that the variety of very cheap Android devices has increased. As a rule, these devices are equipped with very simple components, have outdated operating systems and the computing power is reduced in favor of battery life. We do not recommend these entry-level devices for the reasons mentioned above.
Three to four operating system generations retroactively for iOS and Android:
The Uepaa app runs on smartphones with the Apple iOS and Android operating systems. Each year, the two manufacturers bring operating system updates and new programming environments onto the market. As a software manufacturer, we are also subject to these update cycles. We can retroactively guarantee software maintenance across three to four generations of operating systems. Even older operating systems usually work without problems, but we can no longer provide a warranty here. More detailed information on the currently supported OS versions can be found in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Android Light versions are not supported:
These operating system versions are so limited that Uepaa unfortunately has to decline a warranty. We are also unable to provide support on Android Light versions.
The mobile phone number serves as a unique identification during registration (code delivery via SMS), every login and in the alarm chain. Of course, the Uepaa app is also prepared for handheld mobile devices without a SIM card, but with a landline number (e.g. via MS Teams or Skype for Business).
The volume of data required is barely measurable. 99% of the app runs in the background and the transfer of a maximum of 48 location coordinates per day can be neglected.
As soon as the app is moved into the background, the GPS location query also goes into sleep mode. The battery consumption of our app is checked on a wide variety of device types during OS updates and app adjustments. Current consumption figures are well below 0.2% of battery life per hour. Despite regular location updates, the Uepaa app therefore has no significant impact.
The emergency call center relieves you both operationally and financially:
The 24/7 operation of the Uepaa emergency call center allows you to concentrate on your actual day-to-day business. 85% of false alarms are resolved via the emergency call center and can be closed. For the remaining 15%, we support you from the emergency call center with targeted intervention. All alarms are documented and comprehensible, which supports you in any operational safety audits or legal cases.
The disadvantages of the “Fire & Forget” solutions are striking:
Most cheap app-only solutions simply send a technical alarm, usually in the form of an SMS, email or via an interface. It is then up to you to ensure that alarm processing is guaranteed 24h/7 days a week and that the technology works faultlessly and is system redundant in order to only meet regulatory requirements. Uepaa frees you from these tasks, which should not be underestimated in terms of effort and infrastructure. As a company, you are therefore fulfilling your legal duty of care and can prove this.
In an emergency, there must be no company borders. The first aider function of the Uepaa app identifies all users in the area who can help — regardless of company affiliation. More than 120,000 users have already been integrated. In this way, you become part of a comprehensive first responder network instead of an isolated solution.
The central management tool — for the benefit of your employees:
We are certain that the well-being of your employees is important to you. That's exactly why you've come to the right place, because the Safety Dashboard gives you insight into how to use the Uepaa app correctly.
Without violating the privacy of employees, you will receive all relevant information. These are prepared monthly and provided as a usage report. Misconfigured apps, incorrect usage, or so-called “no-shows” are a thing of the past — for the benefit of your employees.
Transparency creates trust and promotes use:
Even if the Uepaa app disappears into employees' pockets after the rollout, their use remains visible on the Safety Dashboard. We see a real “usage explosion” wherever usage statistics are also regularly shared and discussed with employees. Everything is prepared for you, as the person responsible, to exchange factual best practices and make corrections if necessary — your employees will become true Uepaa app professionals.
The question of all questions — certainly not too many with us. Organizational measures — such as additional wage costs or loss of productivity during insurance — exceed the annual Uepaa costs many times over even with just a few assignments. False alarms as a result of inadequate, exclusively app-based solutions cause a lot of effort.
Uepaa AG is a full-service digital provider that, in addition to the app warranty and the 24h/7-day operation of the Uepaa emergency call center, also monitors and supervises the daily operation of the app in your company — i.e. relieves your own financial and personnel resources to the maximum and supports you in day-to-day business.
The flexible subscription concept allows you to make optimal use of your funds and adapt to changing situations. We are deliberately not a “cheap app” or a “cheap alarm server,” but offer secure, efficient protection.
As an example: The “all-round carefree” equipment for a team of 5 employees starts at CHF 2,000 per year, for additional licenses we speak of 249 per licence/year — including remote training, 365/24 emergency call center availability, support and technical warranty.
Emergency call apps are designed for private use:
The Rega app, representing a wide range of very valuable hiking and alpine rescue applications, was not developed in accordance with the legal requirements that apply to an emergency call system for working alone. The processing of alarms, the qualification of false alarms, the escalation according to company protocol and possible terrestrial intervention cannot be covered by a private user app.
> see the recommendation on the Rega website.
The fall detection of the Apple Watch is for private use:
It is the same as with the emergency call app for the Apple Watch. The fall detection on the wrist is very precise. However, the emergency pass and the connection to local rescue partners are intended for private use. Even practical aspects, such as internal escalation or access to company premises, cannot be covered with this solution.
We can be brief here: When things have to be done quickly, within 24 hours.
Yes — Uepaa AG's server landscape is located in Europe and Switzerland. The majority of data processing runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers. We only use storage, servers and services located in Ireland. No data is processed outside the EU or Switzerland.
Yes — all services used for this purpose (such as AWS, Google) are certified in accordance with the relevant GDPR data protection standards. While using the app, no personal data, such as location, can be viewed. Even in the event of an alarm, location data that is older than six hours is not made available.
We take ensuring privacy very seriously. In principle, the employer has no access to employees' position data. Location information is only shared when escalation is active with the employer and there is a flashing light.
In the event of an alert from abroad, it is possible that repatriation operations may have to transfer personal data to third countries where there is no level of data protection comparable with Swiss data protection legislation. However, this is exclusively about data that is necessary to locate and rescue the person involved in the accident.
Yes — All data is removed from our systems on a rolling basis. We are a rescue service provider with a daily updated order. This means that location data that is older than six hours is irrelevant to the rescue chain and is hidden again. We keep usage and metadata, both for your usage reports or for our First Level Support, for 2 months. This data is then worthless for our application and is deleted on a rolling basis.
